The Prom dress groweth!

 

So the Prom dress continues. These shots show the bodice and then the skirt linings being joined to their silk outers. Then a large amount of hand sewing was required to join the two together at over 200 separate points to create the ruching. I think this makes it looser and larger rather than gathering which creates a smaller, tighter effect. Then the bodice was joined to the skirt and Katy had to try it on for fit....her boobs were toooooo small so a quick bit of adjustment was needed!! Now all to do is sew the zip in and hem.....in 6 days!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Oooo a right tricky bunch of prompts for this weeks Scavenger hunt! First off "Meet me at the Corner" and a shot of Jess cutting out the Prom dress she is making for Katy and turning a corner. One from the archives for "Mother Nature meets Technology" I'm not sure quite how techonological barbed wire is but hey, it's the best I could manage next to Nature's barbed wire, a bramble! More shots of the Prom dress for "One step at a time". A composed shot of the original 1950's step by step instructions along with some of the bits and pieces needed. At the moment, growing all around, are these amazing foxglove, "Standing Tall". It was a rubbish, gloomy, grey day for this shot so I did enhance the shocking pinkness slightly! So "What's wrong with this picture"? Anyone can see that it is Take That performing....what is wrong is the stage, the venue and the weather, (not that you can tell how windy and freezing cold it is!) That's because this is a Tribute band that I went to see last night and very good they were too, sounding amazing and creating a great atmosphere.

A quick post today! After our Jubilee tea in Burnice's cabin we each made a jubilee ATC with some topical papers that Linda brought for us to play with!

The Prom Dress!

Jess is home from Uni now and her first job is to make Katy's prom dress. Prom is July 29th (I think) and Katy chose a vintage 1950s pattern that we found in a charity shop. Jess made a toille from curtain lining and last week we went and bought the fabric proper! We went to Borovicks in Berwick Street (London) which is where I got the fabric for my wedding dress. Needless to say it took Katy aaaages to choose which one she wanted! Finally we came away with a shot silk, lining etc. No doubt this will be a lengthy process so I shall show you the pics in stages. First shots are of choosing the fabric and cutting and stitching the lining...

 

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Not too hard this week as I was on Half Term. I went up to London on Thursday to buy fabric for Katy's Prom dress. Our train comes into London Bridge, right by the almost completed Shard (a new development of apartments and offices in some record-breakingly tall building)so my "Black and White" shot is looking up it. Yesterday I went to visit a very crafty friend Gilly. She scrapbooks; she has quite a lot of "Paper". This is just her plain paper. This shot is from my archives. A friend and I were at a 40th Birthday party and were being rather "Silly" with the cupcakes. Whilst at Gilly's I admired Helly's new bag; it was covered in "Spots". Earlier this week I had to "Travel" to Bournemouth to collect Jess from Uni. Obviously I didnt actually take this shot 'cos I'm driving!

Diamond Jubilee.

We have just had a lovely long four day weekend to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. I say lovely but the weather has ben shocking! Eliza made cupcakes... ...and we had a tea party at home. I made some red, white and blue napkins ..and I went to see Linda and Burnice for another tea party! And even in the pouring rain Oxford Street and Regent Street managed to look festive! All in all a great weekend to be British. The only sad thing were the shocking, but British, weather and also that Prince Philip missed most of the celebrations as he was in hospital. I wish him a speedy recovery so he can return to his duties at the Queen's side.

Strawberryfest!

Katy picked me some strawberries last week....6.5kg of them! So I made a strawberry sour cream pie.... ...and some strawberry jam.... ...then using the leftover pastry and some fresh jam I made jam tarts... ...and finally strawberry cordial! Eliza designed my Jam labels!
