Altered ATC

Over at UKStampers I have just taken part in an altered ATC swap. We could use any material EXCEPT paper/card to make it so I used felt.

I started by stacking 5 colours of felt and drawing a simple design on the what will be, bottom one.

Then I machined round it twice to make it extra strong. 

Then I cut through the layes, up tight to the stitching to leave different colours showing from each layer. So on the first layer I cut pretty much all of it away to leave the black out line. Then I cut everything but the fin..

Gradually I worked through the layers until I had white showing just for the face and I embroidered an eye and mouth. This is called reverse applique and I have never done it before but once I worked out what colours I wanted between the top black and bottom white it was very easy.

Anyone for a biscuit?

Today I thought I would show you what two of my children have been up to over the summer holidays. I picked up a copy of the "Mollie Makes" magazine that has been out for several months now and in it was a pattern for these rather scrumptious felt biscuits! Jess decided to make the Jammie Dodger whilst Eliza (who is only 12) made the iced gems from the patterns provided. Then one of Jess's friends asked for a custard cream and a Party Ring so Jess made them using the pictures in the magazine to help. Helly, this entry is JUST for you!

Here is my latest project underway. I spent 3 hours cutting this little lot out! I saw this on the Purl Bee blog ages ago and have wanted to make one for about the same time. Next time I go to Gillys we are decorating some MDF wreath shapes that we bought a while ago. So I decided to use mine as the base for this wreath.

How fab are these middles!

Pensive Bunny...

As you know I was doing felt things at the weekend. We were all talking about Gilly having a stall at her girl's school Christmas Fair so we might all make a few bits to put on it too. As I was in a felt zone I thought I might have a bash at something other than coasters.....I have made several more and now have a set of 6! So here is Pensive Bunny...at least that's what the pattern says he is. Now this kind of bunny I don't mind amongst my radishes....

Coasters!

Saw these on the Purl bee website yesterday and I just knew I HAD to have some! Today was my scrapbooking day at Gilly's and I didn't feel much like scrapbooking so I took along some knitting to do. Well I did a fair bit but Charlotte was there today making russian dolls with felt....

so I borrowed some and made an orange and a pink grapefruit! They are great fun to make, took about an hour each and I think they look really effective!

So when I got home, after tea, I made the lemon. Now all I want to make is a lime but I can't find any lime green felt just now.....

My new friend!

So here is my peacock! He hasn't got a name yet but I am sure somebody will come up with one soon. As I was blog-hopping a while ago I came across a post that recommended a book called "little birds". On the cover was a felt bird and as I love felt I decided to treat myself. Imagine my excitement when I found a pattern for this absolutely scrumptious fellow as well as lots of other lovelies! He has taken a few hours to do but it was lovely to sew something completely by hand for a change.

And a back view of his tail. The colours have bleached out a bit in all this gorgeous sunshine. IRL he is electric turquoise and purple, so very bright and not as muted as he looks here.
