Art Journal week 28

Waahheeeyyy! Still going! This week is "Truth. Are you truthful? Are white lies acceptable? Have you ever told a big lie or been lied to? Include some paint splats and question and exclamation marks." The thing that sprang straight to my head is the age old question "Does my bum look big in this?" I am a very truthful person, perhaps too truthful sometimes and I would ALWAYS tell a friend if they looked bad in an outfit (provided they had asked for my opinion of course!). The only lies I have ever told is the ones about the Tooth Fairy and Father Christmas. I am sure there are those that think it is wrong to perpetuate these tales to children but I am convinced I did the right thing for my family.
This is the reason why; my second daughter Katy is a very black and white child, no shades of grey there AT all. When she was about 7 she came home from school and said "Mummy, does the Tooth Fairy REALLY exist or is it you?" Well I dodged, evaded and fobbed off the question for day after day until finally I had to sit her down, alone, and ask her if she really, really wanted to know the truth. She insisted that she did so I confessed and told her that yes indeed it was me and Daddy. Well imagine my horror when she burst into floods and floods of tears and remained inconsoleable for at least a week! Every time she looked at me it was with such a devastated look on her face and she kept saying "I wish I had never asked you, I didn't really want to know the truth!" I felt terrible. Now she is 15 she still remembers that conversation and STILL wishes she had never asked, so from then on I knew I was right to lie and she has helpred me to continue the story to her younger siblings!

Antarctica Inchies

I am sorry for the absence. I have had a difficult couple of weeks. Just before Christmas my sister-in-law was tragically diagnosed with terminal adrenal, lung and liver cancer. Sadly she lost her fight two weeks ago at the age of just 45 leaving a husband and two sons. We have had the funeral this week so I have not felt too creative. May she rest in peace.

I should have had these Inchies finished last month and they were almost done but I just needed to cut them out and ink the edges. They represent Antarctica, the final continent in our 6 month long Continents swap. Once they have all been received we are going to make something with them all and send them to someone else in our group! I just glimmer misted the BG and then embossed a snow swirl pattern in white and then iridescent lilac before cutting out and inking the edges in a dark purple. Sorry for the wait people.

Art Journal Week 27

I have even done this week already! This week we are thinking about "Celebrity. Would you like to be famous? Do you have a claim to fame? Which celebrity would you choose to be. Use stamped stars."
The colour has come out a bit funny in the photo but it is silver with gold stencilled through starry sequin waste. Then I cut out some stars to journal on. I would LOVE to be known for something amazing that I had done. And I would love to have the money of a celebrity, I am sure I woud spend it far more wisely! But I wouldn't want to live with the paparazzi stalking my every move or the papers hacking into my private life or that of my friends and family. So all in all I think celebrity is a double-edged sword.

Art Journal Week 26

Wow, we are halfway through already! This weeks theme was "Commitment; are you determined or easily distracted? What is your biggest commitment/one you've never kept? Include a dictionary quote." I am running out of backgroud ideas, time to crack open the magazines and try some new ones. So I started by painting it black and then just added "stuff", ending by stencilling the Guide trefoil through the waste of one my friend Sharon cut me on her Craft Robo.
My trouble is that the next project is always the most exciting and I rarely finish one before starting the next one because I am so keen to get going! My loft is full of half done cross stitch, knitting, patchwork, stained glass etc, etc! But these are really the little things in life; I like to think that I am a bit less flighty for the "big" things, like my marriage and Guiding and my children.
I DO finish some things......just not EVERYTHING!

Art Journal Week 25

Got a bit behind. Week 25 was "Ambition, are you ambitious? Have you achieved any of your ambitions? Do you have a bucket list? Use a glittery star embellie". Oooo how I anguished over this one! I felt that I wasn't ambitious, but then I felt guilty that I wasn't! After a lot of talking about it with my friends ad infinitum I felt ok to be unambitious! When I was at school I just wanted to be a Mum. After a brief worry about fertility I have 4 of the little treasures now so that is ambition achieved! My ambitions tend to be short term; finish this quilt; make a scrap quilt from old clothes; survive 'til the end of term (still a long 2 and a bit weeks away!); learn how to crochet (yes, despite a brief dalliance earlier this year I still can't). But mostly I am too busy living my life to be ambitious and if the truth be known, I can't be bothered! So if I get to the end of my days being happy and healthy then I guess I will have achieved all I want from life.
Oh but I WOULD like to be a Granny.......just not quite yet!

(I just noticed my spelling mistake and no glittery star either; didn't "go"!)

Home Grown Veggies.

Oh yes I know I didn't "make" these but I did grow them! Radishes and rocket! I have never grown rocket before and it was sooooo easy! Just bung it in and up it popped. And it tastes nothing like shop rocket, kind of buttery but some leaves are sooooo peppery it's a bit like Russian Roulette! I put this little lot in a big green salad, and took it , along with a potato salad and a roast chicken, to the beach yesterday for our Sunday dinner!

Pensive Bunny...

As you know I was doing felt things at the weekend. We were all talking about Gilly having a stall at her girl's school Christmas Fair so we might all make a few bits to put on it too. As I was in a felt zone I thought I might have a bash at something other than coasters.....I have made several more and now have a set of 6! So here is Pensive Bunny...at least that's what the pattern says he is. Now this kind of bunny I don't mind amongst my radishes....
